Em 1987, um veterinário belga, também produtor amador de tomates, fundou a Biobest para oferecer uma polinização mais eficiente aos outros produtores de estufa. Hoje, o Grupo BioFirst vê a expansão de seu portfólio de produtos e do seu alcance internacional, em um crescimento contínuo, tanto organicamente quanto por meio de uma série de aquisições estratégicas.

Os acréscimos da Plant Products e da BioWorks na América do Norte levaram a um aumento significativo em seus negócios de horticultura, enquanto a recente aquisição da Biotrop, a empresa brasileira líder em proteção e nutrição biológicas, proporciona ao Grupo acesso ao grande mercado de cultivos a campo aberto, onde produtores e órgãos reguladores buscam urgentemente alternativas sustentáveis.

Acquisition of Biotrop

  • Biobest successfully completed a EUR 365 Mio capital increase to finance the transaction with participation of its existing and new shareholders.
  • Biobest has acquired approximately 85% of the shares based on an enterprise value of BRL 2.8bn (EUR 532m) on a fully diluted basis.
  • Biobest signs agreement with Aqua Capital and GIC to acquire Biotrop in Brazil.

Roland de Jonghe – veterinarian & bumblebee enthusiast sets up Biobest.

In 1987, veterinarian Roland De Jonghe started breeding bumblebees in his own garage to pollinate tomatoes organically.

He was fascinated by the wonderful world of bumblebees used as biological pollinators, an alternative to manual pollination.
